Youth Choirs

Grades 4-7

The OSU Youth Choirs provide young people from grades 4-7 the opportunity to sing quality choral music representing a variety of styles, eras, and cultures. Singers will expand their vocal development, enhance their musicianship skills, and experience a variety of traditional and contemporary repertoire appropriate for their age and vocal maturity.

Program Information

The OSU Youth Choir (OSUYC) program is dedicated to providing young singers in grades 4-7 quality music instruction in a choral setting. Repertoire includes a mixture of traditional, multicultural, and contemporary music designed to expand our students’ musical horizons. Group focus includes the development of beautiful tone along with music reading and performing skills through unison, 2- and 3-part treble singing (SA and SSA). The program is directed by Dr. Julia Haley, OSU Music Education Coordinator, who brings a wealth of experience in leading children’s choirs.

Placement Hearing
Participation in OSUYC requires a placement hearing for the singer and conductor to get acquainted with each other. The hearing lasts about ten minutes, and no prepared song is necessary. The conductor will do a brief evaluation of the student’s vocal range, quality, and tonal memory skills to ascertain his/her vocal independence. Placement hearings (10 minutes in length) will be held on August 18th between 4-6 p.m.
